Chaplaincies

MMI’s desire is that every soldier has effective pastoral support provided officially by an established military chaplaincy. In some countries, no military chaplaincy exists and we seek to liaise with the government and official church(es) in those countries about the benefit to their armed forces of a strong military chaplaincy. We also have close working relationships with former or serving Chaplains of Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Protestant expression. We maintain close links with the British armed forces chaplaincies, and partners with ministries which provide training to military chaplains, such as the International Association of Evangelical Chaplains (IAEC).

Africa

Military Ministries International (MMI) exists to  encourage, strengthen and equip Christians in the armed forces of Africa to live more effectively as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and to be the salt and light in their nations. We encourage and support the work of military chaplains. We believe in building disciples and encourage our African brothers and sisters to do this as much as possible for themselves. We do this through prayer, staff visits, providing Bibles, and facilitating training and fellowship gatherings. When possible, MMI encourages military Christians to form a Military Christian Fellowship (MCF), bringing together believers of different denominational backgrounds in unity and oneness according to Galatians 3.28.

Europe

There are over 20 million people in Europe who are related to the military profession, either serving, family members or in the reserve, both EU and non-EU countries. There are about 25 MCFs (Military Christian Fellowships) out of 42 European continent countries. In many others we maintain regular contact with believers in the armed forces, such as Serbia, Hungary, Armenia etc. MMI is committed to fulfil our Mission of helping Christians of all traditions in the armed forces of Europe to follow Jesus Christ in various ways. In our work we do acknowledge the words of our Lord Jesus Christ that the fields are white for harvest but the workers are few (Matt. 9:37). We also acknowledge that the demand and spiritual needs of Christians in the Armed forces of Europe are bigger than our small team and limited resources. However, we have also witnessed how God can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine through the power that is at work within us (Eph. 3:20).

South Asia

In South Asia Christianity is generally allowed constitutionally. However because it is a minority religion, Christians are invariably discriminated against. There is often a climate of fear in Christian communities. Church meetings can be low key affairs, so as not to attract unwanted attention from the authorities and non Christian public. That said, there are allegedly 10,000 Pentecostal churches across India and in many places in that largely Hindu country, the name of Jesus is proclaimed.

Middle East

MMI has been working in the Middle East since 2002 and has good links with Believers in the armed forces of a number of countries in this region which spans across the south side and beyond the eastern end of the Mediterranean, and down through all the Gulf States. None of these countries is ‘naturally’ Christian nowadays, though the cradle of Christianity is here. Some of the countries remain technically at war with each other and so, when Believers from these countries meet, it is so heart-warming to see their initial frostiness thaw like ice. Indeed a retired Arab Christian soldier, on hearing the testimony and biblical reflection of a young soldier who was a Believer from another Middle East country towards which his country was hostile, declared, “A rock the size of a pyramid has been moved from my heart”. Both were taking part in an MMI sponsored event in the region as Brothers in Christ; partners in the Gospel; “all one in Christ Jesus” {Galatians 3:28}. As MMI seeks new links, especially in lands where we as yet have none, we remain aware that this is a spiritually sensitive region.
